Viking Wolf is an amazing story. It begins where Viking Thunder, the prequel, ends. Eirik, along with his warriors, brings Elswyth to his home after they’ve laid siege and overtaken her village. Unfortunately, Faline who is the daughter of the chieftain and the dead husband to Elswyth is taken along, as well. Faline is jealous over the growing connection Eirik and Elswyth share and resents Eirik’s rebuff of her attempts to bed him.Elswyth is a healer and comes to care for the Jarl’s pregnant wife. As Elswyth role in Eirik’s life becomes more defined, she is concerned she will only be a thrall to Eirik and not as a wife. She knows Eirik’s dominant position as the brother to the Jarl is an important one. The story is enriched by the many subplots and the author’s beautiful and savage descriptions as we follow Elswyth during a troubling time when Eirik takes leave to visit a clan for a new alliance. Alone and unprotected, Elswyth is subject to the whims of the Jarl, and Faline’s cruelty. Her struggle is real and palpable.Ms de Maupassant delivers a spellbinding Viking tale in Viking Wolf. I adored every haunting word and melted over Eirik’s words of devotion for Elswyth. I received and voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

Let’s see... I got this for free so that’s something.I can’t say it wasn’t well written because it was. It had good editing and the author had a good voice. I refuse to write a bad review because I had the misfortune to read a type of story that I, personally, dislike. This story had a lot of cheating in it. The H is mentioned to have slept with another though it was before the actual story began. The h on the other hand slept with his brother repeatedly and even before the H left on official business she had lustful feelings for the brother. So the reason for the 3 stars would be, for me, the lack of showing true romance and feelings, since the h was already thinking of the brother in that way.

Emmanuelle de Maupassant has spent a lot of time and work into creating the world that this book is set in, and it is very obvious. You get a real feel for the Vikings, which is really nice. The way that she writes it, all in first person and all from Elswyth's POV makes it really feel like you are really in the book and that you are experiencing everything that Elswyth is going through, which makes it feel like a really personal book.Elswyth has left Northumberland with Eirik to his home as his woman. Unfortunately, Faline has decided to go with them, and she's nothing but trouble. When they reach his home, they are introduced to his brother Gunnolf, the Jarl, and his wife, the Lady Asta, who Elswyth and Faline go on to serve.I think that this book is really about the journey to find acceptance and a place where you belong. Elswyth has never felt like she's belonged anywhere, and she's always wanted something more, so she's trying to find acceptance and her place. It's a truly lovely story, very well written and there's something very compelling about it.

Elswyth arrives at her new home with Eirik thinking that she will be happy since she was not a slave and she came of her own free will she and Faline her step daughter. They both realize that they are no better than slaves/thralls but Faline sets her sites on the Jarl and Eirik. In Svolvaen she was less that she was with her dead husband the chieftain. The Jarl/Cheiftain Gunnolf and his bride Asta whom she became thrall to, Gunnolf wanted Elswyth but she belonged to his brother and Gunnolf would make no demands she become his mistress openly but his eyes followed her she admitted that he was attractive man but he had a wife and she loved Eirik and she hope to become his wife even though his sister Helka told Elswyth that he had to marry to benefit Svolvaen by making a marriage with one of their allies. She was happy with the way things were going for a while and Eirik told her that he would not let anyone take her away until his brother decided that he wanted to go to war and he wanted to have their allies help and that Helka should marry but she insisted that Eirik should marry after the holidays. She was helping a woman in the village whose daughter had contracted some type of illness that caused open sores on her body and she had one on her face on Elswyth had not figured how to cure her yet, through the winter she tried different medicines to help her and some of the other children. Ylva the young girl with the illness was engaged but her fiance decided he didn't want her when he saw her face. and Elswyth tried harder she found that others had contracted it also. Then as Spring arrived Elswyth ask Eirik to go away with her so that she would not have to watch him marry another but he would not he owed his brother his allegiance, He and Helka left and then seems that everything went down hill from there for Elswyth and others. This was a pretty interesting look into the Vikings and how they lived and the customs. Great characters. Adult content. Romantic suspense. I purchased this book and I am providing an honest review.

A previous short story introduced us to Elswyth the half Viking/half English woman and wife of the older chief of her village in the north of England just as her village is raided by the fearsome vikings led by Eirik who kills Elswyth's husband. When Eirik leaves the village and sails home to Norway he takes the beautiful Elswyth, now his willing mistress, with him as well as, unfortunately, her step daughter the jealous Faline and other captives. Arriving back in Norway they live with Jarl Gunnolf the brother of Eirik. Gunnolf states the custom that Eirik and also his sister should marry into an alliance for the good of the tribe so they travel away leaving Elswyth which is uncomfortable for her as Gunnolf lusts for her despite his pregnant wife Asta who has befriended Elswyth. There is lots of intense love making, lustiness, treachery and also healing since Elswyth has always been good with the herbs and at healing and applies herself here for the tribes people. A real viking romance with sizzling heat this is a most enjoyable read and escape well written.
