I recently purchased this map to assist in planning a trip to Turkey. Before getting the map, I had tremendous difficulty trying to plan and visualize the route I wanted to take. Guide books and Internet maps simply didn't give me a sufficiently clear overview of the highways and cities in relation to the ancient sites I wanted to visit. Frustrated by this lack of clarity, I ordered the map. I was delighted to see that the map identifies historical sites in magenta ink, clearly showing the roads and modern cities nearby. The map index was also very complete, helping me find both ancient and modern sites with ease. Within an hour of examining the map, my travel buddy and I had mapped out the entire trip. This clear planning allowed us to maximize the time we had in Turkey. The result was a fascinating trip of a lifetime! If you want turn-by-turn streets and alleys, buy GPS maps. But, if you want an excellent map to help you plan a trip, this is a great one! Highly recommended!

It is made of a flexible material, i.e. not paper. Since it opens rather large it doesn't tear like paper would. Great details, too.
This is a nice, sturdy map that should serve most touristy walking-around needs in Istanbul. The quality is good: heavy, easy to fold, waterproof. The public transportation map is a bonus, although you can get those for free throughout the city. Istanbul does have a lot of small winding side streets and not everything is marked; if you're going somewhere off the beaten path it would be good to look up your route online and then cross-check it on this map so you don't miss a teeny alley or turn. (That said, half the fun of Istanbul is getting lost on said side streets.) Get this map and eat lots of baklava!
My fault: I should have read more carefully that this included only western Turkey. My travels will include the east as well. Otherwise it is easy to read with well-marked highways and roads. So, it will no doubt be very useful for half of my 3 weeks in a rental car all over Turkey. Thank goodness for Google Maps!
I just got back from 5 days in Istanbul and used this map everyday. the transit map on the front cover was way more useful than I ever expected. The map is very concise, but it didn't help all that much because many streets in the Old City are unmarked. This map did help me make sure I was going in the general direction I needed to be in. This map was extreme useful in the New City
